Irvingia Gabonensis – made from Wild African Mango

Irvingia Gabonensis is commonly known as Wild African Mango and contains a variety of special nutrients.

Product benefits

  • Contains fibre, which aids digestion and provides a feeling of satiety
  • Contains vitamins (including vitamins A, B2, B3, B6, C and E), minerals (including potassium, magnesium, copper, phosphorus and sulphur) and carotenoids

Suggested Use

Stir African wild mango powder into your favourite breakfast cereals, smoothies, juices, lassis, shakes and desserts. You can also sprinkle the powder directly onto salads or mix with your choice of dressing.

Irvingia Gabonensis or African Wild Mango grows predominantly in Africa and Southeast Asia, on a tree that thrives in dense, verdant rainforests typically found along the banks of rivers. The mango tree is between 15 and 40 meters tall and provides year-round, edible fruits that are greenish yellow to red in colour, with a yellowish, fibrous flesh and a large pit. Unlike other mango fruits, Irvingia Gabonensis is particularly sought after for the pit, which is hidden within the fruit and boasts a number of unique properties. Whilst the pit can be enjoyed whole, it is often dried and ground into powder.

Quantity and Dosage

Use 1 gram (1/2 teaspoons) of Irvingia Gabonesis powder per day, possibly distributed over two or three meals. If you are using African Mango Powder as an aid to weight loss, then add 1 gram to up to three meals per day.

  • Irvingia Gabonesis has always played a crucial role in traditional medicine in both West and Southwest Africa, particularly in the area between Senegal and Angola. The 'Mende’ tribe in Sierra Leone for example, use the Irvingia Gabonesis as medicine, predominantly because of its powerful painkilling effect
  • Irvingia Gabonensis is extremely popular in several African countries and is called 'Bobo' in Sierra Leone, ‘Boboru' and ‘Wanini' in Ivory Coast, ‘Andok’ in Cameroon, ‘Meba' or 'Mueba' in Zaire and ‘Oro' or 'Oba' in Nigeria
  • The kernel of the mango forms the basis for a paste known as Dika bread or Gabon chocolate. The pit may also be pressed and the resulting vegetable oil used in the production of soap, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products
  • The residue from crushed Irvingia Gabonensis seeds is used as a thickener or binder in various food products and pharmaceuticals
  • The tree on which the African wild mango grows is a unique variety of hardwood that's ideal as a building material due to its strong resistance to termites. The wood is widely used in the manufacture of shelves, decking, boat decks and sleepers
  • It is recommended to use African wild mango in combination with green tea or guarana extract
